A slim leg pant is a big trend right now—in particular the skinny jean!
The great news is that skinny jeans aren’t just for skinny models. To make them work you just need to know how to wear them.
Avoid the Ice Cream Cone Effect
The wrong skinny jean is basically an old school tapered pant with an updated name. Tapered pants narrowed severely at the ankle and put emphasis on the hip, creating an ice cream cone effect. To avoid this look for a jean that has an overall slim shape but a straight leg.
Drop Names
Every jean company names the different fits of their jeans. The “Skinny” jean of one company will fit completely different from another. Instead eyeball the line of the leg and then try it on. One new name to watch out for is a baby boot. This will have a straighter leg with a very slight boot cut at the bottom.
Opposites Attract
Try a skinny jean with a fun blousy top. Pairing more volume on top looks great with the structure and slim silhouette of a skinny jean on the bottom. To de-emphasize a hip have your top stop right in the middle of the widest part of your hips. Think about cutting your hips in half for a more slimming look.
Do It In Color
Colored denim is everywhere and is a fun way to wake up your denim wardrobe. Add a structured blazer for a casual office or an easy denim shirt for a chic Saturday. Choose a classic color like red or an on trend color like blue, grey, or green.
