Sometimes in life we focus on all the negative things around us and forget to enjoy and realize all the wonderful things as well. Only focusing on the negatives can be a bad habit also when shopping for clothing. I recently took my sister shopping with the goal of achieving a new classic figure-flattering outfit that gave her a more updated style. While this does not seem like a hard task, every new piece of clothing that was any different from her normal style she only focused on the negatives.
Focusing only on the negatives when trying something new hampers ones personal growth. When you find a piece of clothing that you like take the time to just try it on before thinking, “this is a beautiful skirt but I cannot pull off such a straight fit.” When I asked my sister if she had ever tried this style on before judging the item, she admitted she had not but just thought it might not work. I remind you to always give a new piece a chance to shine before you switch to the negative reasons of why it can not work.
When focusing on the positives of a new style piece there are several guidelines that one can use to help stay focused on the positives and still objectively evaluate a piece:
1. Think about what you want to say to the world about your style, does this piece promote this?
2. Try it on before you automatically discount something.
3. Know your style or clothing philosophy, does this piece fit your philosophy?
4. Can you wear this new style multiple times and incorporate it into your wardrobe different ways?
More often than not, each piece of your brand image was created when you needed it, but not altogether in a strategic fashion. Your image may look fine, but does fine help you grow?
Eventually as you scale, your image foundation cracks, and the way your business presents itself no longer helps propel growth – costing you time and money to fix.
When you unlock your brand power, you get to pick and choose how people perceive you and your brand.
